Supplications For The Cure Of Illness - Islamic Perspective

All of us do get sick at some point in out life and this illness may be a minor headache or a common cold and it may be something more serious even requiring a surgery. it is our duty as a good Muslim to seek the best of the treatment within our means and get advice from the doctors but at the same time it is very important to ask Allah to cure the disease and to supplicate to Him.

The Messenger Of Allah Our Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) said:
There is no disease that Allah has created except that He also has created its treatment.  (Sahih Bukhari volume 7, book of medicine, Hadith Number 1962)
Holy Quran is a miracle that Allah has revealed to Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) as the last and final message. This book is a blessing for the humanity. The Holy Quran is not only a guidance for mankind but Allah has also made it has spiritual cure and healing for various illnesses. This includes treatments for all worldly problems, physical and psychological diseases and a protection against evil eye.  It is clearly mentioned in the Holy Quran itself by Allah that the words of Quran are a healing (shifa) for the believers.
Allah says in the Holy Quran in Surah Israa Chapter 17 verse 82:
And We sent down of the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe......
There are many verses in the Holy Quran that we can recite and make supplication to Allah when we are sick. Some of those verses are mentioned below:

1.
And when I am ill, it is He (Allah) Who cures me. ( Surah Shura Chapter 26 verse 80)
2.

So Say: O my Lord! Grant you forgiveness and mercy for You are the best of those who show mercy!  (Surah Mominon Chapter 23 verse 118)

3.
O mankind! there has come to you a direction from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts- and for those who believe, a guidance and a Mercy. ( Surah Yunus Chapter 10 verse 57)

4.
or, Who listens to the (soul) distressed when it calls on Him (Allah) and Who relieves its sufferings....... ( Surah Namal  Chapter 27 verse 62)

5.
If Allah touch you with affliction , none can remove it but He, and if He touch you with happiness, He has power over all things. ( Surah Inam Chapter 6 verse 17)

6.
And (remember) Job, when he cried to his lord, Truly distress has seized me, but You are the Most Merciful of those that are merciful. ( Surah Anbiya Chapter 21 verse 83)

7.
....There is no god but You, Glory to You, I was indeed wrong ( Surah Anbiya Chapter 21 verse 87)

8.
...... For my Lord has care and watch over all things ( Surah Hud Chapter 11 verse 57)

9.  Reciting Surah AlFatiha the Chapter 1 is also a supplication for healing of illnesses. The reference to Surah Fatiha is emntioned at another place in the holy Quran in Surah Hijr Chapter 15 verse 87 as:

And indeed , We have bestowed upon you the Seven oft repeated (Verses -i.e Surah Fatiha) and the Grand Quran.
10.  Reciting Surah Falq and Surah Nas Chapter 113 and 114 are also a protection against all kinds of evils, evil eye and magic.

Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the dawn. From the mischief of created things. From the mischief of darkness as it overspreads, From the mischief of those who blow on knots (black magic) and the mischief of the envious one as he practices envy. (Surah Falaq Chapter 113)

Say I seek refuge with the Lord and Cherisher of mankind, The King of mankind, the God of mankind. From the mischief of the whisperer (of evil), who withdraws (after his whisper). (The same) who whispers into the hearts of mankind, among jinn and among men. (Surah Nas Chapter114)

11.
And put your trust in Allah, and enough is Allah as a disposer of affairs. ( Surah Ahzab Chapter 33 verse 3 )

If God forbid you are suffering from any disease or illness never lose hope from Allah your Creator. It is just a test for you in this temporary world and if you remain patient Allah will surely reward you for it.
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al- Khudri and Abu Hurairah: the Prophet (pbuh) said: No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he recieves from a thron, but Allah expiates some of his sins for that ( Sahih Bukhari Volume 7 Book of patients hadees number 1949).

Narrated Abu Hurairah, Allah's Messenger (pbuh) said: If Allah wants to do good to somebody, he afflicts him with trials. (Sahih Bukhari Vol 7 book of patients hadees number 1951).

(Sahih Bukahri)
May Allah Cure us from all the illness and keep us healthy always Ameen.
