" The likeness of those who take false deities as helpers/protectors other than Allah is the likeness of spider who builds for itself a house; but verily, the frailest (weakest) of houses is the spider's house if they but knew"
Before finding out the nature of the scientific miracle in this quranic verse it is important that we study the verse that comes in connection before and after the above mentioned verse.
" Verily, Allah knows what things they invoke instead of Him. He is Almighty, the Wise. All these similtudes We put forward for mankind; but none will understand them except those who have knowledge. "(chapter 29 verse 42-43)
In the commentary and explanation of these verses it is said that Allah likened the disbelievers and the polytheists in their worship of idols to a spider who builds a weak frail house that cannot provide protection or comfort.
Other explanation of the weakness is the fact the scientists discovered about the weak social structure in the family of spiders. You do not find anything in the spider world except that the female who beheads her mate or her young and leaves the family home .
Modern science has discovered more than thirty five thousand species of spiders with various sizes,shapes,colors, nature and instincts. The scientists has also discovered that the spider's web has a specific geometric design and is precisely formed, and it is set up in a carefully chosen place in a corner or between branches of a tree. The thread of a spider's web is weak enough to be torn by a gust of wind but at the same time it is very flexible.
The scientific miracle in the Quranic wording is to be found in the fact that the verb is used is feminine form, which precisely indicates that it is the female and not the male that make the web and it matches with the recent scientific discovery.
Thus in short Quran has mentioned about spider in a verse giving an example and it all correlates exactly with the recent research in modern science and study of insects.
